So I'm mooching around looking for an article I spotted the other day, and failed to bookmark / print out, and getting annoyed about it. And the fact my typing is restricted by a big silly banadage, and also, due mainly to commas, and ands, also thinking about my tutes for this week and what I shall talk about when I decide to go look at the news (the media being most of the tute this week).
In this case the "news" was the Herald. First up was this article on Possum Bourne. The article tells of the Kiwi rally driver that crashed on the 18th and has been in intensive care since.
The title of the article is Life support turned off for Possum I assumed this was either good, or bad. He is either good enough to go on his own, or he is dead. So I read the article, hoping to be enlightened.
Critically injured New Zealand rally driver Possum Bourne was tonight taken off full life support at the intensive care unit at Dunedin Hospital.
A statement issued by Bourne's family said...
"The extent and severity of the injury was not fully apparent until this weekend just gone, when ventilation support was decreased but he deteriorated and had to go back onto full support," the statement said.
Evaluation today which included a brain scan confirmed the severity of the original injury and "continuing full support is no longer in Possum's best interests."
Aside from the bad sounding caveat that
Bourne who was taken to Dunedin Hospital and operated on, has been in a drug induced coma since then.
Now aside from some other information about the accident and who Bourne is, that is the article in its entirety. Balls.
So, he has been taken off life support huh? In a good way. No, doesn't seem like it. But in a "is now dead" way? No, doesn't go that far. So what the hell kind of way is it? He has apparently needed full support throuhout the week, and "continuing full support is no longer in Possum's best interests" so WHAT?
I decided to check stuff.co.nz. They gave me the exact same story straight from the NZPA. Bah.
Whilst writing this I found an article on Fox Sports with a much more informative title Bourne's survival chances fade, life support reduced. Stink. The article even adds:
OK, so seems like he is going to die, just not yet.DUNEDIN, New Zealand (AP)—
Critically injured world rally driver Possum Bourne had his life support decreased Monday and the head of Bourne's racing team said the driver's chances of survival were "virtually nil." ...It was decided to gradually decrease the use of machines that were assisting his breathing and other life support. Now while this sucks (the death bit) it doesn't detract from the CRAPNESS of their articles provided to me (the news consumer (whinger)) by the Herald's and Stuff's website (and I guess possibly on their print editions, but I hope not). Crappy. I asked others what they thought, and the only one that read it (one from three) agreed with the crappness. (Actually Mog might have as well)
Troubled, but not overly so I moved onto.... Overseas students face a culture gap. Oh yes? In I went. Blah blah over seas students don't know our culture and so suffer some etc etc some crap blah blah. And you know, that is probably true. However.
Ms Bartons aid [sic] if we expected that flow of overseas money to increase, schools were going to have to stop viewing students as cash cows and take a more professional attitude towards the service they provided.
So let me get this straight. If we expect flows of overseas money to increase we should stop viewing students as cash cows. Right. So, if I want more money, I should stop looking at them as more money. Arguably they could be suggesting that the students should not be seen as easy money, but actually require some development, and in part that is the purpose of the article. Nonetheless I rate this CRAPPY.
Another article worthy of scorn, or if not then perhaps slight ridicule but definitly laughter. Employers in the gun over email porn. Actually I just reread it, and yup, sure is crap.
What is this article about? Well the title indicates that employers (more than one note) are "in the gun" over email porn. Now that sounds to me like they are in trouble over it.
Ha, what a fool I am. This article "reports" nothing of the sort. Nothing. What it actually talks about is the fact that theoretically it might be possible for an employee to sue an employer over nasty porn if it was to make it to their inbox.
"Huh?" You say, and rightly enough. Apparently somone has worked out that if they were to recieve some porn in an email (specifically spam, if it was from a real person this would be different) with nasty porn in it then it might be possible for them to hold the employer reponsible and to sue them for "failing to provide a safe work enviroment."
What a load of crap. While I can see how this could be arguably possibly under a very narrow reading of the law, it is asinine. And although this kind of thing occure, it hasn't actually happened. That is noone is actually trying this on, the article is simply pointing out it possibly maybe could.
Thanks. Super. Waste of my life. And I'm an expert at doing that, so I need no help from you thank you sir.
The article is a collection of loosely assembled quotations, vaguely on topic, and yet somehow not. They cancel themselves out and some of the companies that responded were quoted with answers mostly off topic, or perhaps on topic only by stint of the vagueness of the article.
Well vagueness is probably not accurate, more like "just a load of fluff loosely tied together with qoutes that didn't really go anywhere and was totally a waste of time, and really had NO PURPOSE WHAT SO EVER."
So there.
In slightly better news, this is a nice succinct article on the crap (lies and distortions) that convinced all sorts of wankers to go to war.
Holy Whacked Out Gangja Batman.
Now I used to think that ZOMBO.COM was the coolest web page ever. It has some competition now in the form of Boohbah.com. They both need sound to be truely appreciated, but I guess Boohbah still has the animations and weird arse shit going on without the sound, so maybe that makes it better. Nonetheless go there and check it out. Clicking on the bubbles will take you places. As the Fark finders comment, lots of weed was necessary to produce this page. Lots.My owrk here is done.
