A Sick Geek.

Well now, where have we heard that name before?

So it turns out that according to the Geek Test I am a Super Geek at a whopping fity-something percent. This is not in of itself anything too exciting, but what is curious is the low low scores of my companions. Tor & Tark (they are a couple you know) came in second at 34% whilst Saint was left sub 30 at 29, and Card was left wallowing at 27. What the hell? I even got Waz to audit my score to make sure I was not accidentally claiming to be able to program in c++ or that I own/run a Sun-SPARC system or even that I run a system on Linux. But no, still I was geeky. Apparently Mog raised the bar into the 40's, but this is possibly just my diseased mind claiming this. I guess someone will correct me.

Sara and I saw Phone Booth. Not too shabby. They got around some of the problems I foresaw, and covered over some of the others. Although the idea of using a directional microphone didn't seem to come up, and it should have.

The Pols Bus Trip. Ben has already commented onthe bus trip, and really there isn't much more to say. You could read about it here, if only Blogger's archives were not ruled by Mixy the BASTARD. So to read about it, you'll have to follow a longer route, namely this. I can however report that it appears Tim is not dead, although his nose is dripping and he sneezes more often that seems appropriate. He and Nic missed the excitement of the Siding Bar, which as Ben pointed out was the only locality visited that was not a tavern. Oh the Bus drivers they get their kick backs, yes they do. Why the hell else would 50 (there was about 20 of us, and we followed another bus around) 20ish people go to the Papanui Tavern? or the Islington Tavern? We would not.

Only the bus drivers have that sought of power, and I'm sure they charge a fare premium. Oh the jokes about fares I could use here. Also, note that the Islington Tavern had some heinous skanks. So bad. No wonder Nic threw up.

Also. Nothing.

The link by Ben to coroporatemofo and the Matrix commentary reminded me of something that I noticed when I read it.

[Note to the theology geeks who've been e-mailing me: I know the difference between eros and agape, but both terms are apropos for reasons I'd have to delve into pre-Socratic philosophy to explain.]

Yeah, those "theology geeks" they must really be hard core. NO WAIT. Dude, you are writing about people such as Baudrillard, Foucault, Derrida and Origen of Alexandria (who the hell?). About Gnosticism, The Dead Sea Scrolls and Ancient French Kings (Merovingians). Who the hell do you think you are if not some form of "theology geek"? But that is just me.

I do give him mad props for tying the first five books of the bible (ordered as they are now) to the first five iterations of "the one," but there are another 22 books before the new testament and Jesus. So it is not perfect. Cool though.

I have a hate relationship with Talkback. Not a simple love-hate relationship, simply one of hate. I can't stand it.

I listened to it a few times, but the last time, after the bodies were carted away I decided it was time to stop listening, before I was caught. The woman from Invercargill who believed that the water in her taps magically appeared there, like mana from heaven (she did not have a rain tank) and who refused to understand the council's part in the process was lucky to escape me, by a sheer fluke of geograhpy. Or perhaps her location influenced her thinking, from what I'm told that is possible.

However, I do from time to time tune in to Bomber on Channel Z. I like to listen to it as it has people more of my age (aaaaargh) even if they are by now mostly younger. I do listen, see what they are saying and how I feel on the issues. They also seem to discuss issues I'm slighlty interested in, as opposed to the crap I have heard discussed.

Last night I was listening away to a discussion on P and how "many" people feel that P is not being smacked down by users so much because the Govt., has cried wolf in the past and is now being ignored as a liar.

I understand where this is coming from. See the paranoia and the crap pumped out decades ago on the dangers of marijuana. Major catastrophes? Nope. Not really. OK I'm not a big fan of anything that involves smoking as I like my lungs, but honestly when you compare the damage done by weed to that done by say.... Alchohol? You see that it is a mighty gib.

Ecstasy is a simillar case. I remember reading the headline "one dies of party drug" or somesuch crap on the Herald last year and thinking wow! Only one? That is incredibly low when compared with the hype from the Govt and the media over how "E would kill us all" etc etc, and how it really was mental. Well no. Again One? Whooop wooop. Compare that to drink. No dice.

Now from where I'm sitting, P looks like whacked out bad shit, and I sure as hell won't be lining up for it, but I can see why some people will be ignoring the Govt's warnings on the perfectly reasonable rationale that the govt has lied, or exaggerated the truth in the past, usually with the help of the media, or with the media leading the way for shock profits, and so people see no reason to believe them this time.

Sorry Govt, you were talking crap, and now it seems you are being punished.

Which I personally think sucks. For all sorts of reasons.

Of course talkback came back to haunt me, when one caller called in to say he supported a simillar comment as above, and that it was the same with drink drivers, "most of them were fine, it was only a few bad ones that gave the rest a bad name."

Sorry mate, you're a dick. went the radio. Click Click Click.

Sorry, I meant to make that slightly more structured and coherent, but I must flee the battle, and have said the gist of what I wanted anyway.

How to dance properly. Oh yes, you will learn. And laugh. The "fun way" to learn.

In other movie news, you can go here to witness the fitness of a dude doing a Rubik's cube in 18 seconds. Kick arse.

Mmmm Rubik, While I was exploring the excitement of speed solving Rubik's cubes I came across this line "We also allow one excused "piece poppage" during a 12-run trial, as in the 1982 Budapest world championship." Ahahaha. I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous, ah yes I remember, didn't that happen in the 1982 World Championship in Budapest? Why I believe it did. How rare.

Thesis Update: Well, we (read I, and all those poor bastards suffering my angst, whinging, etc etc) have just over two months until VT-Day (Victory Thesis/Tim) it will be August 15th, a Friday. Which it so happens is also Dan's last day of IRD action. There will be MUCH rejoicing. Count it, much. Today I got back some chapters, and together three sections comprise 19,215 words with 99 footnotes. They will be compressed down to around 10,000 words, or maybe less. That will be some difficult I think. Other sections not so compressed (hopefully). More still to be done.

Behold, my first trackback to some guy. Well hopefully it will work. Anyway, he pointed out this thing, skullcandy. Now this is not the most exciting product in the world, but it isn't bad, and more importantly skullcandy is a good name.

Also, surely we can get some laughs out of using the line "must be a glitch in the Matrix." I know, it is pretty geeky, but shut up, that's why. Ben, get on it.

Oh, and I'm sick. For I think the first time in about three years (going back to whenever we all threw up as a group) A pox on poxes.

Ha, you wrote 9000 words you didn't have to.
'Through' up? 'Cartered'? 'Rediculous'?
Oh dear. I blame our education system.
I have no idea what you are talking about. Be thankful through was not thru, yeah ridicule with an i is best, and as for cartered... I have no idea. And blame Spain accordingly. -Luther

The first 5 books of the Old Testament do have a special significance. Exactly what that is I am not sure, but they are called the Pentateuch.
I am pretty sure this was relevant to some part of the above bollocks.

zak = check.

Yeah the Pentateuch are also referred to (or are, or whatever) as the laws of Moses, so that was presumably where hwas coming from. They made up the early Torah I think.

Also, groovy, my trackback worked. Nice.
