You know, a few days ago I was shocked to see Bush Junior doing something that I could say I approved of, he was all "yay Palestine" and "I'm going to sort this shit out once and for all" kinda thing. Not exactly I know, but he (and or his people) seemed to have a "we will make this move forward" and not piss around plan. As opposed to what we have seen in the last few months/years.
So that was nice (and surprising)
But No.
From the BBC:
The failure to end violence against Israelis is threatening the creation of a Palestinian state, the White House has said.
President Bush's spokesman said continuing attacks by Palestinian gunmen hurt the implementation of the US-backed peace plan under which Israel has agreed to the principle of a Palestinian nation.
Oh wow, the violence has not stopped? Who could have foreseen this.... everyone? I think so.
So that was it Bush? That was your great plan... Get a peace plan-roadmap-timetable thing worked out, get the parties to agree to it, in principal (although Israel had 14 reservations) and then off you go. Why did you think a giant bubble would stop them?
I mean that was pretty lax effort.
US: "Agree to peace"
Israel:"Ok...mostly."
Palestine:"They shoot us anyway, why not"
US: "see, that was easy, I don't understand why people say this is so hard. Dad couldn't do it, nor could all the other past presidents, for they were weak, but me, I am Sancho.[a day or two passes]
Israel: "Hey?! Palestine, one of your people blew some of us up."
Palestine: "Yes sorry about that, I have great trouble controlling them, what with us not having a homeland, all of your expansive setllements in occupied territory etc etc, and other assorted crap. But I try.
Israel: "Well screw it, we're going to blow stuff up to"
Palestine: "Yeah, like, we know"
US: "Hey, Palestine get with the programme, or we will withdraw our support and bitch about how you are anti-peace"
Palestine: "Wow, good try though America"
Rest of the world: "Yeah, America, you gave that a huge try, yup, you sure put in the hard work, patience etc to pull that off. Good try though, good try.
BAH.
Also this sucks.
This (again from the Beeb), on the otherhand does not suck. It is in an article on the new particle collider they are building at CERN (home of the www by the way) and it says:
The LHC is a circular, underground tunnel 27 kilometres (16.8 miles) long in which two beams of protons travelling in opposite directions will smash into each other; scientists will investigate the debris from the collision.
[...]
Building the cavern for the Atlas detector has been a difficult task. Engineers had to freeze an underground river using liquid nitrogen to create a permafrost through which they could excavate.
New Post Thesis Thing To Add To My List(tm):
Get the portion of video where Paul Holmes puts the smack down on Dennis Conner and post it somewhere. Damn it is good. Anyway I want it, and if I need to pay the crazy prices of the TVNZ archive people maybe I will. Of course maybe I won't. But maybe I will.
(Homer is escaping from the crazy island in the plastic fork boat and a bubble is deployed and starts heading towards him)
Homer: Ahhhh!
Homer’s brain: wait a minute (bubble gets closer)
(Homer grabs a fork off the boat and pokes the bubble, popping it)
(Back in the control center on the island)
Guy Scientist: Why did you think a giant bubble would stop them?
Girl Scientist: …Shut up, THAT’S WHY!
Enough.
