No Doubt

Friday saw the first annual post grad society indoor netball tournament. I planned on winning, and as such set out to build a winning team.

Turns out I failed.

I had a Journalist, a three Political Scientists, and four Psychologists. What the hell was I thinking? Because I'm so witty, I named our team "the Journal of Political Psychology," Aha. I rule. It is, or at least was a real journal for awhile. Anyway, one of our players had never played netball before, (an American basketball player) but that didn't hinder us much until the final game. We made it to the final after replaying our final pool game which we drew. In our second game we kicked their arse, hurrah.

The final however was lost. They had a super shooter, and our defense could not stop her. Not at all. I should perhaps have gone to defense, but that would have been the first time we had done that in the tournament, and I'm not sure how our basketball player would have coped coming to attack. Probably OK. But I didn't, and we lost. Still had a good time, wasted an afternoon playing netball. Was mucho tired after six games of netball in a row, and met some crazy psych students. Which was good. Also met a wacky journo. He is dangerous. But to lazy to be actually dangerous. D-A-N-G-E-R-O-U-S! Bah.

However we came second which is good.

However we lost to Engineers (well I don't know if their super shooter was an engineer, or a ring in). That's bad.

However we got a free bar tab at Bently's. That's good.

However the bar tab contains Potassium Benzoate. That's bad.

Went to Mog's party, it was good. I forgive him for purchasing cream cheese instead of sour cream. It is somewhat interesting to consider that really, how different can these two things be? Cream cheese and sour cream? They are pretty much the same thing and yet one is good on chips, and one alas is not. He has painted walls to stop it being "drab." Mary and Charles have been introduced to cities and knights, good.

Ah, 2 Fast 2 Furious. Boy you sure sucked. I defend this film not at all. I liked the first film, I thought it was pretty cool in fact. The sequel is not cool. Not at all. What a waste of my semi-precious time. The first film had a plot, and some dialogue. The sequel had a drafted plot, obviously unfinished, or undeveloped, or written by thirteen year olds, and the dialogue.

Oh crap the dialogue. Now some of you know my friend UnSung Hero. He is cool (also on a fishing boat, but that is another story), and what is more he can talk the talk. Probably even walk the walk, but he can talk the talk. And so can lots of people. I cannot. Not at all. I'm a big munty white boy, and when I attempt it, it sounds stupid. To me and those listening.

This film had something worse than me attempting to talk in a cool, hip, fashion. Down with all the street lingo. It had this occuring for the entire film, without anyone realising how contrived, stretched, and down right crappy the dialogue sounded between the hero and his... second hero? It was poor. Poor poor poor.

Also, there are two female characters, and they both suck. Well, the lead female doesn't suck, she is just essentially pointless beyond a certain point, but the only other female character really should not even be classed as one. She is more of a person who is there and just happens, not really deliberatley to have more than one or two lines. She is a waste of time. Not that she should is meant to be important, but rather that someone thought it would be a good idea to have a female car driver, and this is what they produced. If I was a feminist I am sure I would rather have NO female car driver than the character that was devised to fill that niche.

This comment is insightful I think. I can definitly see where he is coming from. Sara and I both noticed elements of this. Which is somewhat interesting, I'm sure AMST or FMST will pick up on it.

If you were thinking of spending money on seeing this, I vote for you taking your money to the video store and watching the DVD of the first film, and watching all the extra stuff, especially the documentary on "Racer X" which is on the DVD.

From Aardvark's lighten up section, amusing.

Dan is having "it off" with someone. I don't know who, but I'll find them. Well, I'll think about finding them. He goes off for days at a time, often at stupidly early hours of the morning. And I mean STUPID. Not just stupid as considered by TBALC early, but full on robot chubby stupid early, eg 5:30 AM. Freaking AM, you hear me hillbilly boy. He claims to be "going to the gym." And perhaps that is what the kids are calling it these days, but I doubt it. It seems far more likely that is is a not so elaborate ruse to throw us all off the track. But I have cracked the case, and j'accuse.

We went to the Art Gallery today. The art is still either good bad or middling, but the building absolutely kicks arse. Dan and I have started our plans for a secret bunked to be added to the top level.

Finally, and for no good reason other than I went to see if the Self Made Critic had seen 2 Fast 2 Fruious, but instead found this (because he hasn't) I present something which made me laugh.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS
Rated: PG-13
Directed By: Peter Jackson
Starring: Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd· Viggo. Is that a great name or what? Liv Tyler, John Rhys-Davies, Dominic Monaghan· I mean the name just rolls off your tongue. Viggo. Say it with me. Viggo. Christopher Lee, Miranda Otto, Brad Dourif, Orlando Bloom· I mean you don't meet that many Viggos around town. But it's not like you can just name your kid Viggo now, because everyone will think you're naming it for Viggo Mortensen. But you're not, it's just a great name. Viggo. That'll turn heads. Cate Blachett, Karl Urban, Bernard Hill, David Wenham, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving and a bunch of other guys who aren't named Viggo and therefore, simply don't matter.

I also appreciate Hugo Weaving as a name.
