MADNESS!
So there is I'm told some crazy real estate action boom boom going on in CHCH at the moment, and indeed in many areas of NZ. Having travelled around a number of open homes, and seen the asking prices for many houses I would give my untrained acknowledgement that hell yeah there seems to be one.
For example...
Sara was looking through her copy of the Realtor on Friday morning and saw nothing that was good and in her price range, that is until she found a house on Bounty St. Mmm Bounty and International Pirate Day Coincidences a foot. Well not really.
So she called up the agent and asked could she see it? No, apparently not. It is a new listing (that week) and there would be no showings until the open house on Sat from 1300 till 1330. OK, not a problem, will see you there.
So we arrived at 1300 and many many others arrived in our wake. Many. We scoped out the premise and found it good enough, and in fact pretty groovy all things considered. Righty she said to the agent what's the deal with making offers? She told us to meet her back at her office later and Sara could make an offer.
We venture to Northlands. It is uber, with a capital smeg.
To the office, and an offer is made. So know I know how that works. Sara offers X hundred thousand dollars, and that is that.
The estate agent called later and said that there were a total of five offers in on the house. Five offers from one 30 minute open home on the second day of listing?! Hell yeah there must be some kind of property action going on.
So we (in my undeducated, and Sara's somewhat more educated opinion) have low optimism of her getting the house. I would be mucho surprised, but it would be cool.
So we wait to hear back from the agent. Nice.
Well there you go, Sara just called and...
...she got it.
w00t. WTF? Well who knows, but huzzah.
So now there will be LIM inspecting, valuation actin and house checking styles. And then, vast sums of somone elses cash will be given to someone else and Sara will own a very small section of a house, some bank will own much more of it.
(Love my use of the old extended entry? I'm crazy like that, oh yeah)
I am bad, I introduced a couple of the honours students to flashplayer.com and they have sunk hours into many silly games. And it gets worse, one of them just saw me looking at E2 and I fear he is lost to us.

Although I never want to buy a house, there are many good reasons as to why I am glad I did a first year course in Property Valuation... although they may as well have called it "How to Buy A House" 101.
