I don't think that requiring immigrants to live in New Zealand for five years instead of three before they can become citizens is too onerous. As I understand it, this is pretty common around the world, and just doesn't seem like a big deal. So there.
I did have a, or mostly written, a big ramble on the revocation of passports. But I stopped. Firstly because I know that it is very early on in the process (hasn't made it to Cabinet yet) and is largely the Herald just stirring things up, and secondly because I realised they weren't revoking citizenship, merely passports, which is slightly different. It is still an important issue, but not worth concentrating on at this stage. I'm fine with cancelling passports gained fraudulently (of course), but am wary of revoking passports for those that do nasty things overseas that may be bad for NZ. We can put them in prison (it's what we do), but revoking their passport? That's a bit ROC. Well, that would have been a link, but I couldn't find a link to the news article where McGillicuddy Serious changed their name to ROC for a week to lower their position in the polls. But I know what I mean.
And go read The truth about why I hate Friendster, which I didn't write. But with which I agree. Not that it will stop me pottering about in such thingies, but flags the idea that I think it is silly. Lis has been discovered, alive and well and living in California of all places?!? Who knew.
