So I was reading in the paper today that some freako has been crank calling the 111 services over the last few days/week. Which is fine and dandy, use caller ID, contact phone provider, and smack 'em. But no, for this particular freako is using a prepaid cell, therefore not with the tracing and smacking. (Trace Buster Buster!)
Apparently she has made over 50 calls, and is really pissing them off.
I know this because whilst watching the TV One News tonight there was an article on the problem. She isn't making calls that can be ignored either, she is making murder death kill calls. And messing people about.
I'm sure that they have done all sorts of reasonable things in an attempt to get her to stop, I'm sure they called her, a lot. I assume they have tried to locate her via triangulation, but 1) apprently this is harder than you'd think, and 2) she might even be smart enough to turn it off... I wonder?
But anyway, tonight on the news they played a couple of clips of her voice on the 111 calls, and also released her cell phone number. It was 025 something something.
Firstly, why am I not surprised it is some 025 pre paid loser? Because I'm a player hater, that's why. (Speciffically with regard to Telecom and prepaid. Not in general. I'm too white for that)
Secondly. WOW. They realeased that girls phone number to all of New Zealand that was watching TV One News. (I haven't watched TV3 News yet, it is on tape) Now this is a very interesting decision in my mind, for it allows the nutjobs to go... err, nuts.
Going something like:
I am a nut. I have this person's number, I will crank call you 24/7 and you can't do shit about it, because if you complain, well Telecom go "oh that is very interesting, where did you say you lived?" and if you don't complain you get called incessently. Or, I could just text spam you, I have 500 texts to burn (I'm a nut, so I'm with Telecom remember) and I can do this for ever, and I can tell my friends and we can just saturate your phone.
So that should work out well for everyone. Of course this person probably isn't smart enough to have accquired a new phone for these prank calls, so it seems likely that someone will recoginse that number and bust them. Or not, they might think it is excellent.
I guess we'll see. I tried looking for the appropriate links on either The Press's or TVNZ's sites, but they were not to be found. If anyone sees them, and tells me I'll launch fighters and link them.
I'm a bit surprised they haven't been able to locate them with triangulation, they only have to get within a smallish area, then call the phone, or go to likely locations and check them out. I would have thought, but I guess the miscreant might have enough brains (we all watch movies that deal with this kind of thing) to turn it off.
I guess we'll see. I was just surprised to see the number up on the screen for all and sundry to do with as they see fit.
